The presence of Ukrainian dancing in the Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and Parkland County began 30 years ago with the inception of the Stony Plain Ukrainian Dancers. In 1983, the club formed a registered society known as the Parkland Ukrainian Dancers Society, (PUDS for short) allowing the youth of the community an opportunity to experience and appreciate Ukrainian culture through costume, music and dance.
Currently, our club has eight groups ranging in age from four years to adults. No dance experience is necessary. We begin our dance season in September and conclude in celebration at our year end concert in June. Our dancers practice once a week, usually for 60 minutes, with older groups dancing up to 90 minutes.
Our dancers learn and perform dances representing five regions of the Ukraine - Poltava, Hutsul'schyna, Bukovyna, Zakarpattia and Volyn.
The objectives of the Parkland Ukrainian Dancers Society are to:
- Promote Ukrainian Dancing and traditions in the community
- Encourage young people to enjoy and appreciate
the Ukrainian culture and dance
- Educate the community about the Ukrainian culture, and have fun!!!
